The second installment of the Nordic Island Adventure Race was a again a race across two countries, traversing magnificent landscapes that included the unique and mind-blowing Norwegian Fjords. The race started at the top of Åreskutan – the mountain in the ski capital of Sweden – Åre. In true NIAR style, day 1 mixed it up completely, with quick transitions from trail running to abseil to zip line and finally an airborne traverse of the Holiday Club Åre hotel lobby, while guests looked on and cheered the teams through. After that things stretched out a little on a bike leg and the race took on the structured adventure race format where teams move from checkpoint to checkpoint and through various transitions. The race finished 630km later in the coastal town of Ålesund on the Norwegian coast.
