For the second year running, the Midmar Mile in KwaZulu Natal included a select group of passionate and committed athletes who completed 16 of the 1 mile long swim from one side of Midmar dam to the other. Their mission in achieving this was to raise funds and awareness for the local river-focused conservation NGO, the Duzi-Umngeni Conservation Trust (DUCT).
DUCT allocated a volunteer canoeist to paddle alongside each swimmer, and ensure their safety for the full 16 miles split over two days. I was lucky enough to be once of these paddlers, and took my camera along to get in on some of the action.
